July

july
The last day of July has arrived.  When I think of summer I think of this month.  It is the only month completely free of school.  Some years, depending on the previous winter, the last day of school can arrive in June.  In the Midwest, school always commences in August.  July arrives with a holiday and ends with thoughts of next year's school supply list.  I go through a re-growth period at this time of year.  I have slumped through the heat, hibernated in the air conditioned house and am now in the look back process.  After reviewing the year, I look forward...And at some point, motivation hits, I 'wake' up and begin again- usually around the first day of school!

25 July 2012

I found this traveling amongst friend's facebook pages.  I will be replacing 'wifi' password with 'remote control'.  I'm not sure my younger people know how to turn the television on without it.  And if by chance they do then they can get exercise by changing the channel manually.

And....

Easy.  A  flower jar next to the kitchen window.  And a little rustic- which I like.

Today I'm cruising through FB and a friend, who lives in Hawaii, shares her paradise by posting phenomenal pictures.  Share and share alike!

Next

The last few days involved spending time relaxing beside a lake.  The next few days will be spent floating down a river.  If my feng shui (I had to look up the spelling!) is not in order when I return... then what?  I'm sure I will let you know...:-)

Just a few...

Every time I read one of these 'ecards' I chuckle.  Sometimes I laugh out loud and make my husband wonder.  This one made me smile because I usually don't think of people that irritate me- but there are a few! And usually after I've had a few! So have a chuckle on me... and if you are reading this you are definitely not in this category. :-)

A friend of mine loves White Castle and cannot understand why her children don't have the same attachment to something she thinks is better than sliced bread.  The same goes in my household.  I grew up eating 'Mom's Tacos' and her 'Goop'.  Tacos was a special dinner growing up-usually made for birthday dinners.  The taco meat involved hamburger meat, celery in its entirety,  onion and hot sauce.  Goop consisted of avocados and miracle whip.  We loved it growing up- to the point- that sometimes it outweighed everything else in the taco shell.  My family likes taco birthday dinners but I am certain they don't hold them to the same reverence as me!

I took a quick look at the website and recipes because the title was intriguing.  If anyone takes a whack let me know the results and I will do the same....

To Those That Serve... Thank You

This past weekend the softball team I mentioned a few days ago played a lot of games over a three day span.  Yesterday, in order, to keep playing today the team needed to win four games.  We played four games but was only victorious in three.  During the last game, while they were mentally strong and willing, the 100 degree plus temperatures they endured sapped just enough strength.  Even though these girls are not dressed in full battledress uniform they were warriors and I salute you all.

Teachings

Over the past month I have contemplated my upbringing.  My oldest brother likes to point out, that as the only girl of four children, I was spoiled.  And I was.  To a point.  My mother always let me speak my mind and at times I would push that 'respect' line as far as I could.  Looking back I pushed it a little too far more times than I should have.  I was raised by a mother whose generation was expected to get married, stay home and raise the children.  I believe it was her way of rebelling.  Her way of giving me a specific independence.  And for that I will be eternally grateful.

#3

The other day a friend posted this picture on Facebook.  Attached were some very moving words and at this point in my life, much appreciated ones.  As an adult the meaning of what was written was understood.  The teenager reading these words interpreted them with a pre-adult conscious.  One day, when her role becomes my role, she will remember and realize how much she was loved by all and especially by her mother.

Not Ever

This summer I have had the privilege of coaching for and working with a group of girls who have decided to take part in the game of softball.  These girls have come together from different parts of the area and have come to know and care for each other, some more than others, but for the most part we have been a drama-free team (as far as I can tell).  That is no small feat, especially when these females are leaving behind adolescence and stepping off towards womanhood!  I am proud to have been part of this experience and am looking forward to the next one.  The posted saying is very, very appropriate for this bunch. They don't always win the game but in the end the score isn't always the top criteria.  They play to the end and they never, ever give up.

Paradox

Life, as I know it, seems finite and infinite in so many ways.  Seemingly I manage to get through every day with that paradox hanging over my head.  I visit my mom's gravesite every so often to 'chat' and to break up the dirt clumps that are still present as no grass seed has yet been planted.  I then come home to my three daughters and check to see how they have changed since yesterday.  Before breathing out I imagine my oldest in her gown graduating from grade school.  The next vision is cap and gown from high school and then university.  That is as far as my visions go because then my breath catches and I have to concentrate on not passing out!  So weird.
